Save Katy Station Steering Committee

Providing Leadership, Coordination & Accountability

The Save Katy Station Steering Committee provides overall leadership and direction for the effort to preserve and relocate Columbia's historic 1909 Katy Station.

The committee brings together coalition leadership and representatives of the five working committees to coordinate activities, review recommendations, establish priorities, and keep the project moving forward.

Role of the Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is responsible for:

  • Establishing overall project priorities, schedules, and goals.

  • Reviewing potential relocation sites and engineering recommendations.

  • Coordinating the work of the five working committees.

  • Overseeing fundraising, budgets, and financial accountability.

  • Reviewing historic preservation and future-use recommendations.

  • Developing relationships with community organizations, property owners, and other partners.

  • Identifying challenges and helping develop practical solutions.

  • Ensuring major decisions follow the coalition's governing procedures.

How the Steering Committee Is Organized

The Steering Committee includes up to nine voting members.

The five working committees are represented by their ten Co-Chairs, who participate as non-voting Steering Committee members.

This structure allows the working committees to participate directly in project discussions while maintaining an established decision-making process.

Relationship With the Working Committees

The Steering Committee coordinates the work of:

  1. Site, Relocation & Building

  2. Fundraising & Finance

  3. Community Vision & Future Use

  4. Community Outreach & Communications

  5. History & Historic Preservation

Each working committee develops recommendations, carries out assigned responsibilities, and reports progress through its Co-Chairs.

Accountability & Transparency

The Steering Committee follows established procedures for meetings, voting, financial approvals, and documentation.

Major decisions are recorded, financial expenditures require appropriate authorization, and members are expected to disclose conflicts of interest.

The Steering Committee works in coordination with the coalition's Board, whose legal and fiduciary responsibilities remain in effect.

Our Commitment

Our goal is to bring together the expertise, resources, and community support needed to preserve Katy Station while respecting property owners, community partners, and the historic significance of the building.

We believe the best path forward is through cooperation, responsible planning, transparency, and practical solutions.
